Middle grade fiction was on fire this year! Here are my top picks for "Best of 2018":

book cover imageInkling by Kenneth Oppel, with illustrations by Sydney Smith - Bursting with creativity, a rogue inkblot comes to life, and this novel explores what getting unstuck means in so many ways.

My favourite children's picture books of 2018 are ...

These fabulous picture books top my "Best of 2018" list:

book cover imageNothing Happens in This Book by Judy Ann Sadler, illustrated by Vigg - Don't be fooled by the title!  Everyone loves a parade, and readers will want to march right back to the beginning of this clever book and enjoy the madcap procession again and again.

My favourite children's book of 2018 is...

Hedgehog Needs a Hug, written and illustrated by Jen Betton. Hedgehog wakes up feeling down in the dumps and he knows that a hug is what he needs to turn his day around.

My favourite children's book of 2018 was...

Book cover imageA 'girls who code book' called How to Code a Sandcastle, written by Josh Funk and illustrated by Sara Palacios.

What's better than having your own personal robot to help you build a sandcastle ... Especially when frisbees, high tide, and dogs can ruin your beautiful creations. This quirky little book will have you laughing - I particularly love the interactions between the young girl and her robot. Not only that, this book will also teach you coding basics in creative and artisitic ways - look out for coding loops!
