Plaque No. 72

Date of Plaque Unveiling: 25 September 2016

Location: 249 Hamilton Road, London, ON (present site of All Saints Anglican Church)

History

Beginning in the early 1860s, as many as 52 oil refineries were established in London to process oil discovered in nearby Lambton County. This volatile industry saw frequent fires before the last refinery closed early in the twentieth century. In 1902, one of them, Imperial Oil, provided the land on which All Saints’ Anglican Church currently stands.
