History
Edwin Seaborn was an 1895 graduate of Western’s medical school, where he served as Chair of Anatomy and later Professor of Surgery. He was also the first and only commanding officer of No. 10 Stationary Hospital, the university’s major contribution to Canada’s effort during the First World War. No. 10 Stationary went overseas in August 1916 and served in France for the last year of the war, returning to London in May 1919 after treating more than 16,000 patients. Seaborn continued to serve the community, the university, and the medical profession as an educator, researcher, administrator, and private practitioner until his death.
