MidMod Movies is back for its 13th season! Join us once again for this popular annual documentary film series of unique, critically-acclaimed movies from around the world that feature Mid-Century and Modernist architecture and design. Presented in partnership with Forest City Modern. September 11 – Arthur Erickson’s Dyde House In an aspen forest in rural Alberta, a hidden masterpiece by one of Canada's most celebrated architects is found. Arthur Erickson's Dyde House tells the story of an undiscovered piece of history and the architects fighting for its future. September 18 – Brown vs. Brown: The Tension of Midcentury Modernism in New Zealand Director Simon Mark-Brown's journey to understand the mystery of his architect father, New Zealand Modernist Peter Mark-Brown who died when Simon was 17. This fascinating film mixes family and architectural history in a feature length documentary that takes us on a whirlwind tour of New Zealand’s midcentury architecture. September 25 – Skin of Glass A cinematic exploration of creativity and inspiration, inequality and loss, Skin of Glass follows director Denise Zmekhol's journey upon discovering that her late father Roger’s most celebrated work as an architect, a 1960s Modernist glass skyscraper in the heart of São Paulo, has become occupied by hundreds of homeless families. October 2 – Lustron: The House America’s Been Waiting For The rise and fall of now-coveted factory-built steel Lustron houses and Carl Strandlund, the engineering visionary behind this post-WW II dream of affordable housing for the masses. From 1948 to 1950, the ill-fated company stamped out about two dozen houses a day on an assembly line and sent them out across the country, but it did not last. October 9 – Journeyman Architect: The Life and Work of Donald Wexler During the 1950s and 60s, Donald Wexler pioneered construction using steel and prefabrication. He applied his groundbreaking techniques and unique style to projects for clients such as Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, the Alexander Construction Company and Walt Disney World Resort.
