Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials Form

As reflected in London Public Library’s Collections Management Policy and Intellectual Freedom Policy, the Library is committed to upholding the values of Intellectual Freedom by providing materials in a broad range of formats that reflect a wide range of ideas and cultural viewpoints.

The Library supports, defends and promotes intellectual freedom and actively advocates in defense of the rights of library users to read, seek information, and express their views.

London Public Library endorses the Canadian Federation of Library Association’s statement on intellectual freedom, which states: “It is the responsibility of libraries to guarantee and facilitate access to all expressions of knowledge and intellectual activity, including those which some elements of society consider to be unconventional, unpopular or unacceptable. To this end, libraries shall acquire and make available the widest variety of materials.”

The Library Board is aware that in providing Materials that represent a wide range of ideas and viewpoints, some Materials in the Library’s Collections may be considered objectionable by some people.  The presence of Materials in the Library’s Collection does not constitute an endorsement of their content or viewpoints by the Library Board or Library Employees.

Any person from the London community who has a question regarding the inclusion of a specific title in the Library’s Collections may request information from the Library by emailing LPLSelectors@lpl.ca.  If the intent is to suggest removal of the specific title from the Library’s Collections, they may submit a formal Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials by completing the form below.

Requests will be reviewed by the Reconsideration Response Team, who will decide on the matter.
