Celebrating a season of imagination and community

This summer, from June 22 to August 17, the London Public Library invited readers of all ages to dive into an exciting array of summer reading clubs and challenges. With out-of-this-world prizes and engaging activities, it was the perfect opportunity for our community to grow their love for reading. Our programs catered to children, teens, and adults alike, making it easy for everyone to participate when and where it was most convenient.

We saw an incredible response to our summer reading programs, with participants of all ages coming together to set new benchmarks for participation and engagement. Join us as we look back on a season of reading, discovery and community spirit at the Library.

TD Summer Reading Club

In our TD Summer Reading Club (TD SRC), young readers blasted off into a summer of fun. We welcomed 4,190 participants, an impressive increase of about 275 from 2023. These readers logged around 23,000 days of reading—a close tally to last year’s total, despite a shorter program duration.

This year’s stars included branches like Masonville, Jalna, Stoney Creek, Pond Mills, and Byron, where participation soared. With an average participant age of 7-8 years old, the program’s charm was clearly irresistible to our younger readers. The weekly prize draws added an extra layer of excitement!

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Our Teen Summer Reading Challenge also reached new heights this year. With 484 participants—30 more than last year—teens embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. They logged an impressive 5,745 days of reading, nearly 900 days more than in 2023.

Popular branches for our teen readers included Sherwood, Stoney Creek, Bostwick, Pond Mills, and Byron. The program allowed teens to track their reading and complete fun challenges for a chance to win weekly prizes. With an average participant age of 13, it’s clear that this challenge resonated strongly with our young teens.

Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Our Adult Summer Reading Club also made a splash this summer. Adults were invited to pick up a challenge card at their local library and participate in a reading challenge for a chance to win prizes. With extra ballots for those who embraced the challenge throughout the summer, the program encouraged readers to delve into new genres and explore their literary interests. The challenge continues to be a favorite among adult patrons who can find time for reading in their busy lifestyles.

Building Lasting Connections

Feedback from our community has been heartwarming and inspiring. A recent survey revealed that patrons greatly valued the chance to discuss their reading with library staff.

One parent noticed an increase in their child's interest in reading, while a staff member shared a touching observation: “It’s at least two weeks after SRC ended and we still have several kids who are doing 'book talks' whenever they come into the library. They’ve built such wonderful rapport with staff and they’re excited to share about the books they’re reading, or have on hold, or even just to share about their current interests. It’s great to see the relationships that the Library has built with these kids and families during the summer and over the last few years.”

This summer’s successes highlight the Library’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a love of reading and learning. Thanks to everyone who participated to make this summer truly memorable for all ages!
